Innovation –  i-nə-ˈvā-shən

a new idea, device, or method; the act or process of introducing new ideas, devices, or methods

United Composites USA as it sits today, has taken all of the many iterations of this company and brought it back to its most pure, most simple form.  The history behind this company and its product began long ago, in fact so many years ago that its origins rival that of companies like Sabre Rods, Fenwick, and Truline.  An inventor from the San Diego area used technology from other parts of the recreational segments of the composites markets and implemented them in the construction of fishing rods and other tubular composite fiber structures.  This innovation revolutionized the fishing rod business with a resounding whisper.  The technology was kept such a secret that not only did other rod companies fail to recognize its significance, but no one even bothered to research it.  To this day, this ground breaking technology is the best kept secret in fishing rods.

United Composites USA is the only company entitled to use the patented and trademarked Dual Helix Technology and Single Helix Technology.  Any other companies around the globe imitating this proprietary construction are merely imposters.  The Dual and Single helix technology blanks are wholly constructed of longitudinal pre-preg glass and graphite in such a manner as to eliminate the need for any glass scrim backing or woven glass fabric.  This innovation, some 40+ years later is what makes the Composites USA product the most durable tubular composite blanks in the industry.

Each blank is carefully designed to maintain the essential minimalist weights demanded by fishermen today.  However, with the extreme hoop strength added to each design, the fisherman or woman will never have to sacrifice strength and durability.  It is clear that our blank designs from Ultra-Light freshwater to extreme Off-Shore bluewater designs carry within the layers of material, the in-born structure designed to keep the rod performing for many years.  Regardless of the application, the fisherman can rest assured that their United Composites USA product will perform.

Rod Design Renaissance

In 2014, the fishing rod community witnessed a major shift within its members.  First, the long standing team of one of the country’s foremost rod blank manufacturers was disassembled after a tumultuous transition to new ownership.  Through that transition, the fishing rod community found itself wondering what Randy Penny, the designer of some of the most impactful blank models to ever be introduced to Southern California saltwater fishing, would do next.  It made for an eerily quiet season in 2014 until July 1st when the wondering ceased.

Randy Penny in association with Peter Williams of United Tackle Australia, seized the opportunity to acquire the rights to the United Composites USA company.  With a unique arrangement in hand, Randy quickly jumped on the opportunity to get his hands dirty, going back to work to revitalize the brand that had shown so much promise over and over and yet underperformed and never met expectations.  It was Randy’s chance to design and manufacture some of the most amazing products of his career and he was ready for the task.  Initially, it was a nearly vertical learning curve that he and his team undertook.  There were equipment modifications, process changes, and redesigns that were all necessary in order to bring the product back to its initial glory.  Slowly but surely the work was done.  The plant was back online.  The work began to flow and the product began to ship.  The brand was back and headed toward some of its greatest challenges.

Because of the consistency of the previous manufacturing team, it was imperative that the company show its previous clientele that it could perform beyond their expectations.  One by one the old customer base was renewed.  One by one the product was shown favor of many of the old customers as well as a swelling of new customers.  The work done in the first year of business was more relationship building and less sales.  However, in spite of all of the challenges, the first year in business for CRP, LLC and its team under the United Composites USA logo was impressive.

Those who are champions in the industry cannot be kept quiet for very long.  It seems as though there are certain names in the fishing business that are always affiliated with quality.  Mr. Randy Penny has established himself as part of the in-crowd.  From where he began nearly 20 year ago, to beginning a new chapter in his career and life, he has been a winner.  The new products that he has introduced through United Composites USA have had immediate and wide acceptance as the premier product in their respective categories.  It will only be a matter of time before his presence is again felt in the unique international markets as well as commercial.  One can bet that as business continues to settle into a reliable pattern, Randy will again turn to the drawing board, and with new technologies, he will again have the ultimate in cutting edge products to share with the world.
